The past couple of weeks have found us moving around the bay system quite a bit. Cold fronts, wind speed, wind direction and tides dictate where we fish. We have managed to find fish in some remote areas away from the crowds which makes for some really pleasant trips. The trout bite has been above average for this time of the year when the weather cooperates. The redfish and flounder have bailed us out on the tough trout days. With water temperatures hovering in the high 50's to low 60's our fish have been in 2 to 4.5 feet of water over scattered shell and soft bottom. They are staying close to deeper water however. Salt Water Assassins in anything plum and chartreuse have been very productive. 51 and 52 series MirrOlures, Catch 2000's and Maniac Mullets have had their moments as well.

Jan. 17th – High Pressure and extremely low tides made the trout bite tough for Allen & Ed, but the reds were more than cooperative with them retaining their limits to 27 inches and releasing more up to 28.5 inches. The afternoon bite was best.

Jan. 19th – Bubba Pyle and I ran out to do a little scouting for a couple of hours in an area that I hadn’t been to in a while. We fished from 4 PM to 6 on a dead tide and no wind, but still managed to catch a few trout and reds (all released).

Jan. 22nd – Rolfe, Bobby and John kept their limits of nice upper slot reds and released several more up to 29.5 inches. No wind and air-clear water had the trout locked up.

Jan. 24th – Scott, Haley & Dave got on a steady afternoon bite. The wind and tide cooperated and the pressure dropped. They caught 31 keeper trout up to 26 inches while retaining 28 of them and 3 redfish.

Jan. 25th – Glen, Scott and Craig got started with me around 9:30 and immediately started catching keeper trout with a lot of undersized ones mixed in. By 12:30 the wind became unbearable and forced us to head in with 28 trout and one red in the box. The trout ranged from 16 to 23 inches.

Jan. 27th – Richard, Jason & Larry met me at the ramp at 8 AM. The bite started slow with us only catching a dozen or so throwbacks. We had boxed only 6 or 8 fish by 10:30. Then the wind started blowing. The water started streaking and the trout started eating. They had their 30 trout and five reds in the cooler by 11:45.
