The past couple of months have been about as inconsistent as I can ever remember. One day we'll catch easy limits and the next day we'll struggle to box a dozen. The redfish action has been bailing us out on the slower trout days. A lot of windy days have been the main culprit, but we are also in our summer-to-fall transition here on Galveston Bay. It was not as obvious the past two years, but it is this year. I'm seeing some really good signs and we'll see even more improvement towards the end of September and on into October. This front will help kick start things a little. Topwaters and Salt Water Assassins have been our main baits of choice. We're still catching fish out of open-water slicks over shell, but the shoreline bite is improving every week. There have been a few groups of birds working, but most of the trout are undersized. This will change in the next 3 to 4 weeks as more and larger white shrimp push out of the marshes and bayous. Cool fronts will speed up the process.
