Mike Rizzuto and his friend Steve hooked up with me this morning with the sole objective of catching some redfish on topwaters. They have plenty of fish in the freezer, so the plan was to release everything. We left the dock around 6:45 AM (late due to storms) and got to our first spot around 7:15. The water was a little off-color because of the storms and NW wind, but we figured we could agitate a few fish by rattling topwaters over their heads repeatedly. We drifted small reefs in 1 to 2 feet of water casting to nervous bait. We started getting a few non-committal blow-ups and then Mike finally hooked up with an 18.5 inch red. Mike and Steve managed to catch 2 more undersized reds before we decided to hit another area.

We worked similar structure at our next stop only to catch a couple of trout to 18 inches and get several more blow-ups. At our final spot, we worked a grass line that was loaded with shrimp, shad, and mullet. Small trout, redfish, and flounder were busting bait out of the water up and down the shoreline. We threw our Super Spook Jr's into the strike zone over and over again only to hook and lose three nice reds and catch several more small trout. Mike switched over to throwing Berkley Gulps and spoons, but only caught small trout. We headed in a little after noon.

It was actually a really fun morning because Mike and Steve were fun to be around and we caught a few fish on topwaters which is always alot of fun.
