|7/26/11 - Stiff WNW Wind Shut 'Em Down
Russell, Gary and Mark toughed it out with me to scrape up 8 trout to 22 inches on a day that the fish had lock-jaw. We actually hooked over 25 trout, but struggled to get them to the boat. It sure makes you appreciate the good days. Various colors of Bass Assassins were used while drifting over shell in 5 to 7 feet of water throwing to lots of slicks.
7/28/11 - Bouncing Back with Limits of Nice Trout!
Trey, David and Cody hit it just right catching their 30 trout to 23 inches along with an 18 inch flounder all before noon. Limetreuse and Calcasieu Brew did the trick.
7/29/11 - Spin-Off from Tropical Depression Don Made Fishing Tough
Eric, Brad and Harold fished in 20 mph winds and thunderstorms managing only 2 trout and 4 nice redfish for the annual Sprint Safety Tournament. We actually only fished for trout for a couple of hours then pulled the boat out of the water and trailered to one of my redfish spots so we would have a chance at winning the redfish division (3 fish stringer). We didn't win, but we did manage 3rd place. 10W40 Assassins and Gold Spoons helped us catch our fish. All of our reds were cookie-cutter 25 inchers. We also lost and broke off 3 or 4 larger ones, buts that's just the way it goes sometimes.
7/30/11 - Heavy Boat Traffic Hampers Bite
Jon, Richard, Casey and Jeff boxed 9 trout to 21 inches while trying to dodge extremely high boat traffic as the result of two big tournaments that were going on. I couldn't fish anywhere without getting run over. It was very frustrating to say the least, but we still had fun as always.
7/31/11 - Great Topwater Bite for Big Trout!
Rob and Mary Ann were in from Omaha, Nebraska to visit their son Matt and do a little salt water fishing for the first time. Mother Nature cooperated and we took full advantage boxing 27 trout to 25.25 inches along with an 18 inch flounder in their half day trip. Matt's big trout completley swallowed his soft plastic and actually had her stomach turned inside-out so it obviously couldn't be released. Most of our fish came on Skitterwalks with a few falling prey to various colored Assassins and H & H Cocahoe Minnows.
