After a pretty tough stretch of transitional fishing the trout are finally establishing a somewhat predictable pattern. Normally, we're still experiencing our transition here in Galveston Bay, but unseasonably warm weather coupled with recent freshwater run-off has jump-started the shad hatch which in turn has given the trout a reason to school.
March 31st - Paul, Donna and Dee were in from out of town to do a little fishing during their travels. The morning started out with a fairly stiff SW wind, but eventually died down. This gave us a few good options for drifting. After hitting 4 or 5 areas during the slack tide we finally got on a decent little bite as the tide started coming in. We ended up keeping 11 trout to 23.5 inches and Paul released a 25.5 inch speck. Our fish came out of slicks and were caught on Red Shad and Chicken-On-A-Chain Bass Assassins.
April 1st - Matt, Kelly and Reed worked slicks over shell to box 19 trout to 23 inches. We fished three different areas and caught fish at each of them. Just like the day before, we definitely should have caught more, but the heavy boat traffic and our ability to keep them on the hook (especially me) cut into our numbers. It was still a great day on the water for this time of year and I must say it's refreshing to finally get on a consistent bite. All of our fish were caught on the same color Bass Assassins as yesterday.
